Medieval dresses are purchased for a wide array of reasons. One might be having a Renaissance fair, a costume party, a play, or even a movie. Sadly, these items may be difficult to obtain. Halloween is really the only time of year that many stores have items such as this. Local clothing stores will most likely lack the medieval dresses you are looking for. Fortunately for you, I have found several places where you can go to buy this type of dress. In the following paragraphs I’ll tell you a few of my favorite places to find medieval clothing and explain to you what I like about each place.

Medieval clothing, like standard everyday clothing, can be purchase in both new and preowned versions. You can buy a medieval gown at a standard costume store or a used clothing store. This includes stores that are found locally and online.

Buying a used medieval dress is great because you’ll save dramatically on price. Ebay and other online auction sites have a wide array of discount preowned costumes. The down side is that you don’t get to try them on and you won’t get a chance to give the item a good look before purchasing it. When buying used items you always want to have a chance to watch out for stains and other issues that may lower the value of the item.

In an attempt to avoid this, you may want to visit your local consignment shop or second hand store. Many times these shops will have preowned outfits you can try on and look over. Unfortunately you will find this method requires much time and patience as it can take awhile to find what you are searching for.

Another method is to go to a new costume store or online costume shop. Many great stores can be found through a careful Internet search. Otherwise you can go to a local costume shop and try on some nice costumes at a higher price. You’ll find this technique useful when you need the costume on the day you are shopping for it and can’t wait for overnight delivery.
